About Metro Tech Theatre Company
Experience the thrill of the stage with Metro Tech Theatre Company. From auditions and rehearsals to electrifying performances, we bring powerful stories to life while building meaningful connections among student artists. As our campus enters an exciting era of construction and growth, a new Metro Tech Theatre Company is rising1 bold, innovative, and student-driven. We are emerging as a leader in creativity, community, and engagement, shaping the future of theatre one performance at a time.

Our Story
Theatre at Metro Tech began with humble beginnings. In 2007, Mark Agnew started as an English teacher before being given a small after-school theatre class in 2009 by Principal Kate McDonald, a strong supporter of the arts. That first class fewer than ten students performed a bilingual adaptation of Electra set in East LA. From there, the program slowly grew.

With Principal McDonald’s continued support, theatre moved through multiple spaces across campus. A theatre club formed, producing cabaret shows, holiday performances, and creative student projects like a telenovela satire film set at Metro. A major turning point came when the program moved into Building 15, finally providing a dedicated performance space. Productions expanded to include A Midsummer Night’s Dream (disco style!), A Servant of Two Masters, and eventually a fully equipped black box theatre thanks to district arts support from Rebecca Vogel.

Collaboration transformed the program when dance teacher Lauren Stanis joined Metro Tech. Together, the departments produced beloved musicals including Grease, High School Musical, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Sweet Charity, and The Addams Family. Even through setbacks including COVID and cancelled productions the spirit of the program never faded. The work continued for creativity, expression, and joy.

At its heart, Metro Tech Theatre has always been about students: those who showed up, took risks, supported each other, and grew into confident performers. The ensemble spirit, personal growth, and shared commitment defined the program far more than audience size.

A New Chapter
In Spring 2025, Mr. Christopher Johnson joined Metro Tech, ushering in a new era of leadership and vision. Building on the strong foundation created before him, Mr. Johnson has expanded student engagement, developed performance-based learning experiences, and transformed Metro Tech Theatre Company into a dynamic, student-centered organization.
Today, the program emphasizes:
-
Student leadership

Artistic risk-taking
